It’s not their fault either. Most healthcare professionals haven’t been educated about the complexity of weight issues or the evidence-based strategies that are available. Myths about weight management abound and influence everyone—including healthcare providers.
As an obesity medicine specialist, I bring a holistic understanding of all the factors that affect your weight and health. Weight gain is influenced by a complex web of genetic, biologic, and environmental factors, many of which are not in your control. My task is to identify how those factors have affected you and provide a personalized plan that leads to weight reduction and improved health.

As someone who is on the forefront of the science of medical weight management, I understand the metabolic, physiologic, and psychologic complexities of excess weight conditions. I know how to identify those factors and create a personalized treatment plan that addresses them one by one.

Obesity has been recognized as a chronic health condition by the American Medical Association, the World Health Organization, and numerous other medical organizations. This designation recognizes the complexities and avoids the blame and shame that are so prevalent in our society. It spotlights the need for accurate evaluation, effective treatments, regular monitoring, and long-term support from knowledgeable healthcare providers.
I will conduct a thorough medical, nutritional, and lifestyle analysis, as well as a comprehensive laboratory evaluation and physical examination. This information will guide me in the creation of a comprehensive treatment plan that utilizes the four pillars of effective treatment—nutrition, physical activity, behavioral counseling, and FDA approved anti-obesity medications, if appropriate. Your plan will evolve as we learn what is most effective for you. We will be guided by your goals and insights as you move through your health journey.

My approach goes beyond providing you with a treatment plan and sending you home to implement it. Most people struggle with consistency with their health behaviors, particularly when they are confronted by stress, social events, travel, holidays, and competing demands. I will help you navigate these challenges and provide you with the support you need to be consistent. You will learn how to refocus when you veer off-track and how to stay on your own side when the inevitable challenges arise.
We will work together to address the factors that affect your health in your day-to-day life. A wealth of experience allows me to shine a light on the things that may be sabotaging your efforts and help you find solutions. We will discover ways to build a healthy lifestyle that fits into your unique life.
I treat every patient with warmth and compassion. Many come to me struggling with shame and feeling misunderstood after years of trying to will their way to losing weight.
